Pakistani senator questions PM Imran Khan, “Why is Pakistan helping Taliban, which is unwilling to recognise the Durand Line”?

Islamabad: Pakistan PM Imran Khan, who has been advocating Taliban at the international level, has to face intra-national criticism. Taliban is unwilling to recognise the Afghanistan-Pakistan ‘Durand Line’, then why must Pakistan help them? This question was raised by Senator Raza Rabbani. Moreover, Rabbani demanded Imran Khan reveal details of the agreement his government signed with the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP).

Last week, the Taliban uprooted a barbed-wire fence installed by Pakistani soldiers in the Gushta district of Afghanistan‘s Nangarhar province near the Pak border. Besides, Taliban denied recognising the Durand Line and warned that it would not tolerate this wired fence. Moreover, Taliban also threatened to shoot down Pak soldiers if they tried to intrude the Afghan space.

Moreover, Taliban published Pak soldiers’ video issuing warning at the Durand Line on social media. Besides, Taliban defence ministry spokesperson Inayatullah Khwarizmi had backed this action at the Durand Line. Pakistani soldiers were unlawfully erecting a barbed-wire fence at the Nangarhar province border and Taliban opposed that activity, declared Inayatullah.

Taliban’s action at the Durand Line, the threat issued to Pakistani soldiers and the support shown by Taliban representative has caused intense reactions in Pakistan. The reason for tensions between the preceding Pro-US Afghan government and Pakistan was the Durand Line. However, this conflict has not ended despite Pakistan granting Taliban the throne of Afghanistan. Instead, Pak media has slammed Taliban for threatening Pakistan.

Furthermore, Raza Rabbani, a senior member of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), raised this same issue in the Pakistan Parliament. Taliban is unwilling to recognise the Afghanistan-Pakistan’ Durand Line’, then why is Pak PM Imran Khan taking pains to help them? Rabbani asked. Besides, Tehreek-E-Taliban, which does not recognise the setup in Pakistan, is reuniting in Afghanistan. It would enable militants to carry out new terror attacks in Pakistan. Thus, Rabbani raised a thunderous question about the basis on which the Imran Khan government introduced a ceasefire.
