‘Operation Kaveri’ to begin evacuation of Indians from Sudan

'Operation Kaveri'New Delhi – ‘Operation Kaveri’ has been implemented to evacuate Indians stuck in Sudan, where the bloodshed has been ongoing. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar informed that the aircraft of the Indian Air Force had reached Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, and the naval vessel had reached a port in Sudan. Jaishankar also said in his social media posts that nearly 500 Indians have been brought to ‘Port Sudan’ from Khartoum and other areas till now.

Moreover, the conflict between the Sudanese army and paramilitary forces has killed 413 people in the last 11 days. It has been claimed that the scope of this conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary force will increase further, and there will be more bloodshed. Hence, major countries worldwide have prepared to evacuate their citizens from Sudan. Countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt have been leading in this. Till now, Saudi has evacuated three Indians. Also, it is said that France has rescued a few Indian nationals, too, including its citizens.

More than three thousand Indians have been stranded in Sudan. The issue of their security has become serious, and in this regard, the central government organised a special meeting on Friday. Prime Minister Modi had instructed at this time to make the necessary provisions to rescue Indians safely stuck in Sudan. Besides, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had contacted his Saudi, UAE and Egypt counterparts. Also he had even met the General Secretary of the United Nations.

As the situation in Sudan escalates, India has kept two C-130J heavy transport aircraft of the Air Force ready in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Navy destroyer INS Sumedha has reached Port Sudan. This preparedness is for taking measures to rescue Indians in an emergency immediately. So far, around 500 Indians have arrived at the port. This now ensures their release. Hence, this now assures their release. At the same time, efforts have been underway also to rescue other Indians stuck in Sudan.
