Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that the strong will displayed by both sides has begun a new era in Turkey-Israel relations. President Erdogan announced this after the talks with Israeli Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu. Both leaders expressed concern over the attacks in Istanbul and the West Bank.
Ten years ago, Turkey severed diplomatic ties with Israel after the Israeli military’s action on a ship bound for Gaza Strip. Subsequently, Erdogan adopted an anti-Israel stance and started talks with the leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah. But with Turkey’s crumbling economy, Erdogan had to abandon his dream of leading the Islamic world and make the practical decision to establish cooperation with Israel and Saudi Arabia again. During Netanyahu’s reign, Erdogan announced a new collaboration with Israel a year ago.
Moreover, Netanyahu’s government will soon be established in Israel. Before that, Erdogan had a phone conversation with Netanyahu. The talks were said to include the conflict in the West Bank and Russia-Ukraine.
