Israel and Turkey to establish diplomatic relations once again after tension for 12 yearsA decade ago, Israel and Turkey had friendly cooperation. But in 2010, Turkey sent a ship full of aid to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The ship was seized by Israel’s navy, accusing that ship isaacwas carrying aid to Hamas terrorists in Gaza. After eight Turkish people were killed in the Israeli operation, President Erdogan withdrew from all forms of cooperation with Israel. It also started openly supporting anti-Israel groups.

Erdogan met the leaders of Hamas, which has been declared a terrorist organization by the United States and Israel. As recently as two years ago, the Turkish president claimed rights on Jerusalem in Israel. Erdogan also threatened that the Turkish army would soon liberate Jerusalem from Israel. But over the last two years, Turkey’s economy has collapsed. At the same time, Turkey, which once had good relations with the United States, European countries and Saudi Arabia, has now been isolated internationally.

Moreover, criticism is gaining momentum in Turkey that President Erdogan’s fundamentalist leadership is responsible for our country’s current state. Erdogan’s political opponents began to benefit from this. Alarmed by this, President Erdogan has taken steps over the past year to cooperate with old allies to help Turkey recover from its economic crisis and improve its image. For this purpose, the President of Turkey met with the leaders of Saudi Arabia and Arab-Gulf countries a few months ago. Along with this, Turkey started vying to re-establish cooperation with Israel.

President Erdogan’s efforts have begun to bear fruit. On Wednesday, Israel announced that it would establish new cooperation with Turkey. After this, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Turkish President Erdogan had a telephonic conversation. Soon both the countries will open their embassies in each other’s countries and appoint ambassadors. As attacks by terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad from the Gaza Strip increase and the Israeli crackdown against them intensifies, the cooperation established between Israel and Turkey is drawing attention.
