Future Battlefields will be transformed with the use of Laser: Commander of Israeli Air Force

Tel Aviv: – Major General Amikam Norkin warned, ‘We will witness increasing use of laser on the battlefields. Lasers will be used for protection, defence on land and air. This will transform the future battlefields.’ The air force’s importance is increasing worldwide, and Major General Norkin indicated that the Israeli air force also has many missions lined up in the coming times.

While speaking at the ‘2022 Calcalist and Bank Hapoalim Forecasts’ conference Major General Norkin, a senior official from the Israeli air force, drew attention to the challenged posed in front of the Israeli defence systems. He said, ‘The military and the air force will prove to be the major influencing factors for Israeli security,’ Major General Norkin underlined the importance of the Israeli air force.

Major General Norkin said, ‘The battlefield is changing. The future situation will not be that you unfurl your flag on a territory to announce your victory. The conflicts will become more complicated. The Israeli air force will have to carry out many important missions in such a situation.’ Although the Israeli official did not mention it, he referred to the missions against Iran. At the same time, Major General Norkin said that Israel needs to increase its strength in the space sector.

Major General Norkin warned ‘We know how to target deep-seated locations in an enemy country with precision. But Israel will have to reach higher than this. Currently, we communicate, collect confidential information and destroy ballistic missiles with satellites. But Israel should focus more on the developments in the space sector.’

The Israeli military has been working on laser systems for the last few years. A few months ago, it was reported that the Israeli air force had equipped its fighter jets with laser systems. It is also being said that the new advanced version of the Iron Dome air defence system, which has successfully neutralised the rocket and missile attacks from the Gaza strip, will be a ‘Laser Dome’. Major General Norkin has given indications regarding these developments.
