Australia’s Old Parliament House set on fire

Canberra – The disastrous event of Australia’s Old Parliament House catching fire has surfaced. The Australian leaders have criticised this misfortunate event as an attack on democracy. For the last few days, the original Australian habitants, who were protesting for their sovereign rights, are suspected of being responsible for this attack. However, the indigenous Australian clan leaders said that the alleged protestors do not represent their group.

Australia, Democracy, Old Parliament HouseOver the last two weeks, the indigenous Australian campaigners have demonstrated in Canberra for their demands. Earlier, on 20th December, a group called People’s Treaty had organised peaceful protests. The motive of this protest was to demand the sovereign rights of the Australian aboriginal people. But, some sources have claimed that some other groups have also intruded these peaceful protests held by the People’s Treaty.

Moreover, the invaders, who joined the peaceful protests of the People’s Treaty, started shouting slogans as soon as they reached the Old Parliament House. Following this, these protestors set the main gate of the parliament afire. The videos of this event have surfaced. Besides, the protestors have also attacked the reporters documenting this scenario. So far, nobody has been arrested in this case.

But, this whole event is being severely criticised across Australia. In 1988, the Australian government closed down the premises of the Old Parliament House and started the national parliament in a new building. However, the Old Parliament House is being utilised as a museum ever since. This infrastructure is looked up to as a symbol of Australian democracy. In such a situation, some maniacs’ attack on this monument is an attack on democracy; few leaders have expressed their dissent.

Furthermore, setting this monument, which symbolises democracy afire, cannot be part of a protest; this should be considered a crime, slammed Australian representatives. All the more, the suspects that have been protesting for their sovereign rights for the last few days are not associated with the aboriginal Australian clan, claimed the clan’s representatives.

Despite this, such violent protests in Australia are very scarce. But, the press has cited an increase in such violent demonstrations since the times of Coronavirus.
