Jagdeep Dhankhar elected as new Vice President of India

New Delhi: Jagdeep Dhankhar has been elected as the new Vice President of India. In this election held on Saturday, Dhankhar got 528 votes. His rival Margaret Alva got 182 votes. The evening after counting votes, it was announced that Dhankhar had won with a huge margin.

The ‘National Democratic Alliance-NDA’ announced the candidature of Dhankhar for vice-presidential. The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) announced the candidature of Margaret Alva.

In this election, it was announced that Margaret Alva got 182 votes out of 725 while Dhankhar got 528 votes. Besides, 15 votes were declared invalid in this election. As per information, 55 MPs did not vote in this election. Meanwhile, the victorious Jagdeep Dhankhar will soon take over as the country’s vice president. Jagdeep Dhankhar, a senior lawyer, has been a practising advocate in the Rajasthan High Court and then the Supreme Court.

Dhankhar has also worked as a member of the International Court of Orbiter in Paris. Dhankhar has also held the post of Parliamentary Affairs Minister.

President Draupadi Murmu has congratulated Dhankhar on this achievement. President Murmu has expressed the belief that the country will benefit from his vast experience. The outgoing Vice President Venkaiah Naidu also congratulated Dhankhar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Dhankhar and congratulated him.
