London: – Israel’s ambassador to Britain, Tzipi Hotovely, briefly escaped an attack by pro-Palestinian protesters. The British government condemned the incident, saying it was ‘shameful’ and apologised for it. Ambassador Hotovely said that she would not back down due to the incident in London.

Ambassador Tzipi Hotovely was invited to the event at the London School of Economics. Pro-Palestinian groups, as well as extremists, strongly opposed the presence of the Israeli ambassador. Some extremists have posted on social media threatening that the students and Palestinian supporters will ransack buildings where the event occurs. They also published a provocative post threatening an attack on the Israeli ambassador’s car.

As Ambassador Hotovely was leaving the building after the event, some aggressive protesters tried to attack her. But the Israeli ambassador’s bodyguards surrounded her in time and escorted Hotovely out safely. Some protesters then tried to run towards the Israeli ambassador’s car but were stopped by the London police. The extremists supported the attack on the Israeli ambassador. Leaders in the government of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Nadhim Zahawi and James Cleverley condemned the attack and apologised.

Last year, the then Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed Tzipi Hotovely as Israeli Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Hotovely is known as a devout supporter of Israel. Earlier, Hotovely had backed settlements being built in the West Bank of Israel.
