Israel tests naval version of Iron Dome

Tel Aviv: Israel, which stunned the entire world with its military technology, tested the naval version of the Iron Dome air defense system. Israel’s Ministry of Defense and Navy claimed that this system would successfully cope with attacks from the maritime area. The system will soon join the Israeli Navy. Meanwhile, following the attack on an Israeli fuel tanker in the Gulf of Oman, Israel has claimed to have announced a test of its maritime Iron Dome as a warning to Iran and affiliated terrorist organisations.

Israel has installed a US Patriot system to intercept fighter jets. Besides, indigenously made Arrow for long-range ballistic missiles and David’s Slings for medium-range missiles have been deployed near the Gaza-Lebanon border. The Iron Dome has been successfully knocking down short-range rocket attacks. Over the past two years, the Iron Dome had squashed the shower of rockets from Gaza.

Now the navy version of the same Iron Dome, the C-Dome, has been created by Israel. Israel’s Ministry of Defense and the Navy announced information regarding the last successful trial of the C-Dome was carried out last month. The test was conducted from ‘INS Oz’, a Sa’ar 6-class corvette. In a joint statement, the Ministry of Defence and the Navy clarified that the C-Dome had been tested using genuine attacks. Sa’ar-6 class corvettes have been used to protect Israeli fuel and gas projects and tankers in the Mediterranean Sea.

Local media have been drawing attention to the timing chosen by the Israeli Defense Ministry to reveal details of the trial, which took place last week. Last week, an Israeli fuel tanker off the coast of Oman was attacked by a drone. The US had accused Iran’s Revolutionary Guards of attacking the Israeli-owned ship. But Israel had avoided holding Iran directly responsible.

Iran’s naval operations in the Persian Gulf have also posed a challenge to US warships. There have been incidents of Iranian patrol boats dangerously chasing warships from the US and European countries. At the same time, the information had surfaced that Iranian drones had filmed videos of US warships. In such a situation, Israel seems to have warned Iran by announcing the successful test of the C-Dome.
