UN special envoy to Afghanistan expresses concern about IS-Khorasan’ presence across Afghan provinces  

Washington: – Deborah Lyons, special envoy for Afghanistan related matters, expressed a concern that over the last few months, the terrorist organisation IS-Khorasan has grown hugely. It is expanding in almost all the Afghan provinces. The attacks by IS-Khorasan have increased nearly five-fold in the last year. Lyons said that the international community needs to view this expansion of IS in Afghanistan with caution.

The UN Security Council had convened a special Afghanistan related meeting. On this occasion, Deborah Lyons, special envoy for Afghanistan related matters, pointed to the instability created in that country. Lyons claimed that the instability in Afghanistan has increased since the Taliban took control of Kabul. IS-Khorasan, an affiliate of the terrorist organisation IS, operational in Iraq and Syria, is the main reason for the instability in Afghanistan.   

Once upon a time, IS-Khorasan was active only in Kabul and a limited number of Afghan provinces. But over the last few months, it is being observed that the terrorist organisation has expanded to all the 34 provinces in Afghanistan and is operating dangerously. In the year 2020, IS-Khorasan carried out 60 attacks in Afghanistan. Lyons pointed out that in this year, the terrorist organisation has carried out 344 attacks.  

The terrorist organisation Taliban who has taken over Afghanistan, claims to be taking action against IS-Khorasan. But Lyons accused that the Taliban terrorists are arresting and killing the IS terrorists and suspects. Lyons appealed that the international community must be cautious about viewing this Taliban action and the increasing IS attacks in Afghanistan.
