19 killed in a dual bomb blast in Kabul

Kabul: – A bomb blast and firing near a military hospital in the Afghan capital, Kabul, claimed at least 19 lives and injured 50 others. The attack is claimed to have been carried out by IS militants in retaliation for the Taliban’s crackdown on IS over the past few days. The Taliban has not yet pinned the responsibility for the attack on anyone. Meanwhile, the conflict between the two terrorist organizations, the Taliban and IS, has increased the plight of the Afghan people. Countries like Pakistan, which claim that peace will be restored in Afghanistan after the Taliban come to power, have fallen flat on their faces.

On Tuesday morning, terrorists stormed the Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan military hospital in Kabul‘s Wazir Akbar Khan area. Initially, the terrorists detonated a car bomb near a security checkpoint at the hospital’s main entrance. The terrorists then opened fire indiscriminately and entered the hospital building. One of the nurses said that terrorists broke into every ward here and shot anyone they could see. While the shooting was going on, another bomb exploded in the hospital compound.

The international media is claiming a double bombing. An Afghan newspaper quoted an eyewitness as saying that one of the blasts was a suicide bombing. The Taliban declined to comment on ‘How many people were killed in this blast?’, ‘Who carried out the attacks?’ Leading news agencies in Afghanistan, under Taliban control for the past two months, also declined to comment further on the blast.

This is the third major attack on the military hospital in the last decade. Earlier, 30 people were killed in an attack in 2017. IS had claimed responsibility for the dreaded attack, which lasted for several hours. At that time, IS terrorists were trying to take the patients as hostages. In 2011, 26 people were killed in a suicide attack on the hospital by Taliban militants.

For the past 20 years, Taliban militants have targeted the elected government and the Western military in Afghanistan. In the last two and a half months since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, IS militants have targeted Taliban militants. IS has not claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack. However, there is a strong suspicion being expressed that IS may be behind the attack.

Fighting between the Taliban and IS militants continues in the provinces of Nangarhar and Herat, along with the capital Kabul. Taliban militants from Kabul are claiming to have captured IS militants. Whereas, in Nangarhar province, IS militants are targeting the Taliban. But the conflict has added to the Afghan people’s hardships, who are accusing Pakistan, which is helping the Taliban, of being responsible for their plight.
