Iran supplied Libya’s Gaddafi regime with chemical weapons: US Secretary of State

Washington:- US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made crushing allegations, ‘Iran had supplied chemical weapons to the Libyan dictator Muammar al-Gaddafi and Iran had used chemical weapons even in the war against Iraq. These chemical weapons were manufactured by Iran itself. But it hid the information from the international organisations.’ US Secretary of State Pompeo has accused Iran of violating the chemical weapons agreement. Iran had the facilities to manufacture chemical weapons, but Iran hid the information from international organisations. At the same time, Iran had supplied chemical weapons to the Gaddafi regime in Libya, during the war between the African countries, Libya and Chad, between 1978 and 1987. Pompeo said that Iran did not disclose this information to international organisations.

In 2011, after the fall of the Gaddafi regime, the interim government established in Libya discovered 507 Sulphur Mustard artillery shells and bombs. The Libyan government shared this information with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Pompeo said that it was exposed in the subsequent investigation that these chemical weapons had been manufactured in Iran. Pompeo said that Iran had used chemical weapons even during the Iran-Iraq war, in the city of Basra.

The Iranian foreign ministry criticised the accusations levelled by the US Secretary of State. Whereas, Russia dismissed the allegations levelled against Iran. Meanwhile, Pompeo declared that he would expose information regarding the cooperation between Iran and the terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda within the next few hours.
