China’s Foreign Minister Qin Gang alleges invisible hand is using the Ukraine conflict for geopolitical interest

Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang alleged that an invisible hand has been using the Ukraine conflict to fulfil its geopolitical interests. He also claimed that the efforts to broker peace talks between Russia and Ukraine had failed. Although Gang did not name any country, his inclination was towards the United States. Moreover, Gang made this statement during a press conference in the background of China’s parliamentary session. At this time, he compared the possible arms support from China to Russia with the arms provided by the US to Taiwan.

China's Foreign Minister Qin Gang alleges invisible hand is using the Ukraine conflict for geopolitical interestAt the Security Council held in Europe last month, the US Secretary of State accused China of preparing to supply Russia with lethal weapons. On the contrary, China denied the accusations and announced it would soon submit a peace proposal for the Russia-Ukraine settlement. After that, China also submitted a proposal containing 12 clauses. But instead of discussing the proposal, the western countries brought up the issue of arms supplied by China to Russia.

The leading European countries, including the US, warned China about this possible arms supply. At the same time, China has also accused Russia of helping to find loopholes in the sanctions imposed earlier. Besides, Western countries have warned China that if China supplies arms to Russia, the Ukraine conflict may escalate. In response, China targeted the West’s stance.

He added that the invisible hand used the Ukraine crisis to serve certain geopolitical interests. He said, ‘Conflict, sanctions, and pressure will not solve the problem…The process of peace talks should begin as soon as possible, and the legitimate security concerns of all parties should be respected.’

The Chinese foreign minister also claimed that China was not on anyone’s side in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and had not provided weapons to either country. Therefore, by asking why China was being warned of restrictions, Gang cautioned that China would not tolerate the matter.
