Chinese President Xi Jinping took over the reins of the country in 2012. The legal provisions were made more aggressive to facilitate the Chinese agencies to act and charges of treachery are being levelled against the activists demanding democracy and human rights.

Chinese communist government arrests pro-democracy and human rights activistsHundreds of pro-democracy and human rights activists have gone missing in the last seven years and it is believed that they are languishing in the Chinese prisons whereas some are alleged to be dead. But the Chinese communist regime has not revealed any information, barring a few exceptions, regarding these people. The involvement of the people spreading, and demanding Marxism in action taken by the Jinping government raises questions over the motives.

Many activists and lawyers were arrested by the security agencies in the Xinjiang, Hebei and Fujian provinces of China, in the last few days of December. Some of these activists and lawyers are members of the ‘China Human Rights Defenders’ group. These include Ding Jiaxi, Xu Zhiyong, Tang Jingling and Dai Zhenya. The local sources informed that some of these members are directly charged with treason.

It is reported that the Chinese foreign department and security agencies did not respond to any media queries. Since the last one year, the Chinese government has become a target of criticism, because of the atrocities against the Uyghur Muslims and the action against the Hong Kong protesters. Although, the ruling communist party has repeatedly justified these actions, it is apparent that President Jinping is in trouble regarding these issues.

Against this background, the western media claimed that the Chinese policies regarding the human rights and other connected issues would change. But, it is evident from the new developments that the action is only being intensified by President Jinping.
