A year after the Russia-Ukraine conflict, there has still been uncertainty about its outcome. Ukraine has been unable to force Russia to withdraw despite the West providing weapons worth billions of dollars. Therefore, a sense of displeasure against Ukraine has been increasing in European countries, including the United States, and there are indications that support for Ukraine is decreasing in many countries.

Against this backdrop, members of Germany’s ruling party demand that Chancellor Scholz should take the initiative for a cease-fire becomes noteworthy. Besides, Germany has increased its arms aid to Ukraine in recent days. Germany supplied advanced Leopard tanks on Ukraine’s demand and had also indicated the supply of other weapons aid. While the German government struggles to provide arms to Ukraine, the parties and its members who are part of the government seem reluctant.

Along with Germany, the US also indicates to change in its stance on aid to Ukraine. A chief US analyst, Nicolai Petro, has urged Ukraine’s President to make moves for talks with Russia instead of asking for arms.
