Five Eyes intelligence chiefs warn China for theft of intellectual property rights

Washington/Beijing – The intelligence chiefs of the Five Eyes member countries have alleged that the Chinese Communist government and its affiliates are stealing intellectual property rights in all areas ranging from quantum technology to biotechnology. Christopher Wray, the head of the US’s FBI agency, has claimed that more than two thousand cases of China trying to steal such technology have been registered in major countries worldwide.

Moreover, the US has launched aggressive campaigns against China’s growing activities and influence. Allies assist in targeting China in various ways considering this. Besides, the visit of the intelligence chiefs of the Five Eyes member countries to the US and the constant warnings about the threat from China appears to be part of this move. A few days ago, at an event held at the Hoover Institution in the US, there was a warning about the spying of the Chinese Communist government in major Western countries.

Eventually, in an interview with the US’s top news channel, the intelligence chiefs of Five Eyes drew attention to the theft of technology started by China at present. They highlighted that China’s actions pose a major threat to new global research. They also noted that China targets many areas, like quantum technology, artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology. Furthermore, the intelligence chiefs alleged that China is stealing intellectual property rights through cyber intrusion, espionage and investment. Also, the intelligence chiefs have drawn attention to the fact that currently, theft and espionage by China are the biggest threats.

Mentioning China’s growing capabilities in its annual report a few months ago, the US intelligence agency drew attention to cyber attacks, surveillance and espionage. Later, the US had indicated establishing cooperation with Asian countries in opposition to the growing threat of China’s espionage. After this, inviting the intelligence chiefs of Five Eyes to a public event in the US attracted much attention as it openly highlighted the threat of China’s espionage.

Apart from this, the US and the UK intelligence agencies had signed an agreement to cooperate against the backdrop of World War II. Following this, Canada, Australia and New Zealand joined the intelligence alliance known as the Five Eyes. After the end of the US-Russia Cold War, the scope of activities of this group was said to be reduced. However, in the last few years, the Five Eyes alliance has adopted a stance against China’s growing aggression, and the warnings received from an event organised in the US are an important phase of it.
