Conflict sparks again on Azerbaijan-Armenia borderIn 2020, a 44-day conflict erupted between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Armenia had suffered heavy losses in the conflict that erupted over the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. Russia had brokered a ceasefire between the two former Soviet countries. But for the past three years, the conflict that started in these Central Asian countries over border issues has not stopped. Moreover, Armenia has been demanding to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will travel to Brussels next Sunday to discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and will meet Nicol Pashinyan and the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. At this time, it was predicted that these two Central Asian countries would sign a ceasefire agreement.

Azerbaijan’s relations with Iran, which sided with Armenia in the conflict, have also frayed. Besides, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev admitted that relations with Iran have deteriorated to an unprecedented level. Furthermore, President Aliyev had accused Iran of deploying terrorists on the border of Azerbaijan. Iran has accused Azerbaijan soldiers of provoking Iranian soldiers stationed at the border.

Meanwhile, the growing friendship between Azerbaijan and Israel has become a headache for Iran. Israel has been claimed to have provided large military aid to Azerbaijan. A few days ago, Israel’s Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, visited Azerbaijan. At this time, reports had emerged that Azerbaijan signed an agreement with Israel to purchase drones and missiles. Iran had objected to the visit of the Israeli Foreign Minister and had alleged that Israel could use Azerbaijan to attack Iran.
