Biden administration declares Energy Emergency to tide over electricity

Washington: The Biden administration has declared an Energy Emergency to tide over the possible electricity shortage in the United States. According to that, instructions have been issued to initiate immediate and necessary steps to the country’s trade, finance, and internal security departments to meet the electricity demand of the US population.

There has been a major upheaval in the energy and fuel markets on the international level following the Russian attack on Ukraine. The natural calamities in the United States have also come simultaneously, hindering electricity production and distribution. Electricity production has declined because of the drought-like situation in certain parts of the country and also because of the heat wave. Hence, the demand has significantly increased. Leading agencies, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and North American Electricity Reliability Corporation, have issued warnings regarding problems in the availability of electricity shortly.

The statement issued by the White House expresses the need for new electricity production mentioning all the above factors. The ordinance issued by the Biden administration notes that the share of Solar energy will be substantial in the new electricity production, and immediate steps will be taken in that direction. There is also a shortage of spares necessary for solar energy over the last few months.

The use of crude oil and coal has been reduced in electricity production, and the stress is on green energy.
