Over 80 killed in Syrian conflict; Iraq closes Syria border

Damascus – IS terrorists attacked a prison in the Hasakah province of Syria. 84 people were killed in the attack and the subsequent conflicts. Many IS terrorists have escaped from the prison, giving rise to the possibility of more such attacks in Syria. Iraq, as a precautionary measure, has closed its border with Syria. For the last three days, conflicts have been reported between the IS terrorists and Kurds in the Hasakah province, the northeast part of Syria. There were attempts by IS terrorists to attack the jails in control of the Kurds. Finally, on Saturday, IS terrorists succeeded in the attack, which killed 54 IS terrorists and 27 members of the Kurdish gang.

More than 3,500 IS terrorists were captive in prison before the attack. However, it is claimed that many terrorists have escaped prison during the attack. Some of these terrorists escaped with weapons from the Ghuwayran prison, including senior IS commanders. The Kurdish gangs have claimed to have arrested most of the escaped terrorists, but many of the terrorists are reported to have escaped.

Civilians from Ghuwayran regions are reported to have begun to move to secure locations after the attack. An atmosphere of terror has been created once again due to the attack and the IS terrorists escaping the prison. Since the IS base in Syria were destroyed in 2019, the terror activities were limited to a great extent.

Iraq has closed its border with Syria. Despite this, Iraq is grappled with the fear that IS terrorists may launch terror attacks in their country as well.

Meanwhile, amid reports of conflict between the Kurdish gangs and the IS terrorists, it has been reported that the United States and Turkey have launched airstrikes in the Raqqa province in north-western Syria. The Syrian government has accused the United States of targeting civilian settlements in the Raqqa province. Whereas Turkey launched airstrikes on the areas under Kurdish control, claiming to have killed five Kurds.
