Washington / Seoul : “We would necessarily shoot down the North Korean missiles, if they pose any threat to the United States or its allies”, warned the US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter. “Our country is in the final stages of preparation of the Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM), which would be test launched at any time soon”, declared North Korea. On this background, the US Defence Secretary has issued this warning.
The North Korean Dictator ‘Kim Jong-un’ has created uproar by his declaration of test launching the ICBM in his New Year’s Day speech. The North Korean leader had declared of manufacturing of the ICBM capable of reaching up to United States, having reached the final stages. Even last year, in the first week itself, North Korea had conducted nuclear as well as missile tests.
It is said that the North Korean leader’s declaration about the ICBM was a direct warning for Donald Trump. The US President-elect Donald Trump has also responded to the declaration. Trump had mocked that the North Korean intercontinental missiles will not be able to reach the United States. North Korea does not have the technology to target the east coast cities of United States, claimed Trump.
Before Trump’s declaration, some US military analysts also had similar notions about North Korea’s missiles. North Korea does not have the technology to direct a missile towards the United States, stated these military analysts.
But South Korea has expressed their concern on the assumptions of Donald Trump. Trump should take up this matter more seriously as the North Korean missile programs are progressing dangerously, urged South Korea. They also expressed confidence in Trump to take stern action against North Korea.
Nonetheless, North Korea issued a new declaration about the ICBM just a couple of days ago. “Our intercontinental missiles are ready for test launch any time.” The North Korean Foreign Ministry declared that they could test an intercontinental ballistic missile at any time from any location as per the country leader’s order. This declaration has created tension in the Korean peninsula.
On this background, the US Defence Secretary Carter has threatened North Korea. North Korea has demonstrated a qualitative improvement in its nuclear as well as missile capabilities. While said that, the United States is prepared to shoot down the North Korean missiles, informed Carter in a news channel interview. However, he didn’t mention about any details.
Keeping in view the danger posed by North Korean missiles, United States is deploying the “THAAD” missile defence system in South Korea. But China has firmly alleged this defence system of United States to be against their interest. However, North Korea’s declaration about the missile testing has further strengthened US and South Korea’s claims.
