Since last year, there have been signs that China could attack Taiwan. Hence, the United States and Taiwan officials, analysts and leaders were seeking attention over this issue. Taiwanese leaders claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping could attack Taiwan to gain acceptance and trust. Since the visit of Nancy Pelosi, the US speaker of the House, to Taiwan, China has been overly aggressive. Followed by Pelosi’s visit, officials from the United States, France and Japan visited Taiwan. Aggravated by this, China increased patrolling and surveillance around Taiwan’s border and airspace. President Xi Jinping has ordered their military to be prepared for operations in Taiwan. Many infiltration attempts by Chinese fighter planes and destroyer ships are claimed to be rehearsals of actual attacks.

Against this backdrop, allies, including the United States, seem to be more active on the security issue of Taiwan. Last week, the United States, United Kingdom and Australia conducted war drills to prevent China’s incursion into Taiwan. It included advanced fighters and bombers such as F-22 Raptors, B-2 Bombers, Eurofighter Typhoons and EA-18G Growlers. Military analysts claim that proactive strategic actions were studied during the drills for the liberation of Taiwan in case China succeeds in taking control of Taiwan.

Then, during the visit of the US delegation to Taiwan, President Tsai Ing-wen mentioned the importance of strengthening defence cooperation with the United States. Taiwanese officials claim that the announcement to increase military deployment in Taiwan is a message from the United States. It is claimed that the military contingent sent by the US Department of Defence will train the Taiwanese army in advanced weapons and military tactics.

According to claims made by The Wall Street Journal, the Taiwanese army is also being trained in the United States by the Michigan National Guard. China had already expressed its strong displeasure over this growing defence cooperation between the United States and Taiwan. If the United States sends additional troops to Taiwan, it could trigger China an aggressive response.
