Davos: Senior US statesman Henry Kissinger advised that the United States and China should avoid a confrontation on the Taiwan issue. The Taiwan issue cannot become a priority in the diplomatic negotiations between the United States and China. US President Joe Biden had claimed that the United States would deploy its soldiers to defend Taiwan in case of a Chinese attack. A strong reaction had been received from China over the statement. Chinese foreign ministry had warned that the United States should not defend Taiwanese independence.
Moreover, Kissinger presented his stand on US-China relations during Davos’s World Economic Forum meeting. Kissinger appealed that the United States and China should focus on the issues creating discord between the two countries during negotiations. While doing so, space should be maintained to continue bilateral cooperation. The United States and China ending their enmity is important for world peace.
Since taking over as the US President, Biden has repeatedly made statements that the United States will protect Taiwan in the event of a China-Taiwan conflict. The Pentagon and White House have been forced to clarify after the statements. It has been repeatedly clarified that the United States will take steps within the purview of the One China Policy and the Taiwan Relations Act. 
But as per analysts, the repeated statements of the US President indicate that the United States is changing its policy regarding China. It has also been revealed that US allies Japan and Australia also have adopted an aggressive stand against China on the Taiwan issue.
Against this background, the advice of Henry Kissinger, the statesman who has been the main architect of establishing the US-China relations, becomes significant. During the Davos meeting, Kissinger made a sensational statement even regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Henry Kissinger said that Ukraine should be willing to part with a certain territory if it wants to establish peace with Russia.
