US military not war-ready to fight Russia & China: Foreign Policy website

Washington: – The website ‘Foreign Policy’ claimed the US military is not in a state of complete readiness for a war against Russia and China. This claim has been based on a survey conducted by the US military itself. Former US military officials also have endorsed the claim that the US military is not prepared. But the defence department has dismissed these claims and clarified that the senior officials are confident of the war preparedness and even victory.

A few months ago, the US military withdrew from Afghanistan. The senior military officials faced massive criticism over the chaos during the military withdrawal. It was being claimed that this military withdrawal from Afghanistan was a strategic mistake; the United States is no longer a superpower. While these claims are surfacing, information is also being received of a possible reduction in the US defence expenditure. Against all this background, the news posted by the website ‘Foreign Policy’ becomes significant.

The US military surveyed civilians along with about 5,500 soldiers last year. The survey asked questions about war readiness. Responding to this, only about 34% of the soldiers had shown confidence in the war preparedness of the US military. Only 20% to 40% of the senior officers had confidence for immediate deployment and victory. Former officials have also confirmed the possibility of the US military not being ready.

Retired Lieutenant General Thomas Spoehr expressed his displeasure, saying that the army’s position would be challenging if a war broke out today. Retired Lieutenant General Thomas Spoehr pointed out that some brigades of the army are well equipped, but that number is not enough. However, the Department of Defence denied the allegations. Senior Army officials are confident of preparedness and victory, Defence Department spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Terrence Kelly said.

As per the information published by the Heritage Foundation, only 58% of the Brigade Combat Teams of the US military are fully prepared for war. The think tank pointed out that this statistic is well below the target set by the US military. The article published by the website Foreign Policy also clarifies that the US Army and issues in the Airforce and Navy are also surfacing.
