US troops withdrawal from Afghanistan was a strategic failure: US Military chief

Washington/Kabul: – President Biden is backing the decision of US military withdrawal from Afghanistan, saying that it was a correct decision. But during a hearing in front of the US Senate, the Defence Chief and Chief of CENTCOM made statements dismissing the claims made by President Biden. CENTCOM Chief Frank McKenzie said that a proposal to withdraw the military, leaving 2,500 soldiers behind, had been submitted. In contrast, US Defence Chief Mark Milley said that the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan was a major strategic failure of the United States.

A storm has been raked up in the United States over military withdrawal from Afghanistan for nearly a month. Republican Senators accused that this military withdrawal has brought disgrace to the United States and the US adversaries like China and Russia will benefit from this. Besides, some people have demanded an impeachment motion, whereas some others have demanded Biden’s resignation. Demand had also been made that the Pentagon officials supporting the decisions should be dismissed from service.

Against this background, a hearing of US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, US Defence Chief Mark Milley and CENTCOM Chief Frank McKenzie was held in front of the US Senate. General Milley said, ‘We failed in understanding the situation in Afghanistan and the United States will have to accept this disturbing fact.’ The information revealed by the US military officials during the hearing dismiss the claims President Biden has made during the last month.

In the hearing in front of the Senate, General Mark Milley clarified that if we withdraw quickly without achieving specific and required objectives, we will lose everything we have gained so far in Afghanistan. My analysis said that the United States would lose its credibility worldwide, the government in Afghanistan will collapse, the Taliban will come to power, or civil war will break out in Afghanistan.’. He also acknowledged that the withdrawal was a ‘strategic failure’ for the United States.

General McKenzie, the head of CENTCOM, said that he too was opposed to a complete military withdrawal from Afghanistan. General McKenzie said I recommended that we maintain 2,500 troops in Afghanistan. I also believed that the withdrawal of those forces would inevitably lead to the collapse of the Afghan military forces and eventually the Afghan government’. But both military officials refrained from directly criticising that the decision taken by President Biden was incorrect. But US media and analysts criticise President Biden completely overlooked the suggestions from his military officials before deciding to withdraw completely from Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, after the confessions of General Miley and General McKenzie, former US President Donald Trump attacked Biden. Trump lashed out at the Biden administration, saying the decision to withdraw was naive. Moreover, the Biden administration is entirely responsible for this.
