Washington/ Tokyo: The United States and Japan signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation in the space sector. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, and the head of the US space agency, Bill Nelson. While China and Russia are increasing cooperation in the space sector, Japan’s signing of a new agreement with the US in the space sector is attracting attention. A few days ago, in the ‘Two Plus Two’ meeting held between the United States and Japan, it was decided to include the threats from space and space attacks in the defence treaty between the United States and Japan.
In the background of the aggressive activities of China, North Korea and Russia, Japan has started to increase its capabilities and preparedness on all fronts. Last month, Japan announced a new ‘National Security Strategy’ and also decided to increase the defence expenditure to a record. It has indicated strengthening cooperation with major countries to stop China and North Korea. As a part of it, Prime Minister of Japan and other senior ministers are on an international tour.
Moreover, Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida reacted that the alliance between Japan and the United States is getting stronger. Besides, the agreement in the space sector will also increase the scope of bilateral cooperation. According to the new agreement, American sources said that Japan’s participation in US space missions would be increased and Japan’s cooperation will also be taken in missions in ‘deep space’. After the United States announced the ‘Artemis’ moon mission, Japan was at the forefront of supporting and participating countries.
In the past few years, China and Russia have greatly increased their cooperation in the space sector and it has come to light that both countries have come together to build a base on the moon. At the same time, Russia is providing technical support for China’s other space missions. It is also said that both China and Russia have developed technology and systems that can launch attacks in space.
