US criticises anti-Israel resolution passed at UN

New York: A resolution was passed in the United Nations by a majority calling Israel to subject its nuclear program to inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and to give up its nuclear arsenal. Israel and the US have sharply criticised this resolution. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, a US Representative to the UN, criticised the United Nations, asking them to stop passing such anti-Israel resolutions.

US criticises anti-Israel resolution passed at UNIn the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly meeting, a resolution was proposed to counter the threat posed by nuclear proliferation in the Middle East. Israel has been accused of secretly developing nuclear weapons in the resolution. The resolution was passed by a wide margin, where the Assembly voted 152-5 in favour of it. The US, Canada, Micronesia, Palau, and Israel voted against the resolution. Also, Israel has objected to this resolution in the United Nations.

Israel has criticised this resolution for targeting it while giving Iran a free hand. Israel has accused Iran of conducting an illegal nuclear program over the last few decades and having a large stockpile of enriched nuclear material. US Ambassador Greenfield criticised the resolution as anti-Israel. Moreover, Greenfield accused the UN of focusing on passing anti-Israel resolutions instead of establishing peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
