US companies continue to dominate the global arms trade – Report by European think tank ‘SIPRI’

Stockholm: On the background of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, the demand for arms at the international level seems to be increasing continuously. In 2022, 100 big companies in the defence sector have sold arms worth about $ 600 billion. US companies continue to dominate this business, and 42 US companies have earned more than $300 billion. This information has come to light from a new report released by the European think tank ‘SIPRI’.

The report titled ‘The SIPRI Top 100 Arms Producing and Military Services Companies, 2022′ was released recently. It contains a list of the world’s 100 leading companies earning the highest profits in the defence sector. The US Lockheed Martin Corp has become the largest arms-selling company in the world. After this, Raython Technologies, which ranks second, sold arms worth $39.5 billion.

Of the ten major arms-selling companies, five are from the US, three are Chinese and one each from the UK and Russia. Apart from this, the first 50 big companies include companies from Israel, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, South Korea, India and Taiwan. ‘SIPRI’ has shared in this report information about the sale of arms worth $597 billion by these major world companies in the year 2022.

The world’s supply chain was disrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic that spread in 2020-21. Its major impact on many industrial sectors of the world is still visible. However, the figures for 2022 show that the companies in the defence sector did not suffer much loss due to the pandemic.
