US CENTCOM Chief in Israel

Jerusalem: – General Kenneth McKenzie, chief of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), visited Israel on Friday and met Defence Minister Benni Gantz and Defence chief lieutenant General Aviv Kochavi. This is the second visit of General McKenzie to Israel, in the last week. This is the first visit of General McKenzie to Israel to include Israel into the Central Command and Middle Eastern countries after Pentagon’s announcement.

General McKenzie, Chief of CENTCOM, headquartered in Qatar, is on a two-day visit to Israel. The United States has not published any details of General McKenzie’s Israel visit. But the Israel military informed that the CENTCOM Chief is in Israel to discuss the perceived threats from Iran and other entities in the Middle East.  

Lieutenant General Kochavi said that this visit of General McKenzie is crucial given the US-Israel military and strategic partnership. Kochavi said that the US-Israel cooperation could prove vital against the Iranian threat.   

A few hours ago, the Israel Defence Chief had warned US President Biden, who is keen on signing a fresh nuclear deal with Iran. Kochavi had threatened that if the United States committed this blunder, Israel would attack Iran on its strength. The Defence Chief also ordered its military to be ready for a war against Iran. This visit of General McKenzie is being viewed against this backdrop.  

Two weeks ago, US military headquarter, Pentagon highlighted Israel’s importance by including it in the CENTCOM, established for the Middle Eastern countries. This was an important decision taken by President Trump, during his last days in the office. After that, General McKenzie visited Israel. Whereas, the US bomber jets completed patrolling from Israel to the Persian Gulf.   

Meanwhile, reports are being received that the new US Secretary of Defence, Austin Lloyd, held discussions with Israeli Defence Minister Benni Gantz over the telephone.
