Upheaval in the Korean region as North Korea begins nuclear test movem

Seoul: North Korea, which has caused a stir in the Korean region by conducting missile tests, has now prepared for a nuclear test. North Korea had threatened to respond to threats against it for the past few days with a nuclear attack. South Korea has since been alarmed by the moves the country has launched for a nuclear test, and there was news that the South Korean President’s office was on 24/7 standby. However, no one should ignore the unvarying determination of South Korea’s defence made by the United States; this defence will remain even against the possible threats from the nuclear test, said Philip Goldberg, the US ambassador to South Korea.

North Korea had irresponsibly conducted missile tests for the past few days. Besides, North Korea had claimed this was its reaction to the US and South Korean war exercises. Also, there are indications that North Korea has threatened South Korea and the US with nuclear attacks and has started movements for nuclear tests. Hence, South Korea has been looking at it very cautiously. Considering the possible nuclear threat from North Korea, South Korea demanded that the US deploy nuclear weapons in South Korea. The US, committed to the defence of South Korea, categorically rejected it.

The US will not be able to deploy its nuclear weapons in South Korea. However, the US is committed to the defence of South Korea, and no one should ignore the US’s unvarying determination for it. Even against the backdrop of the nuclear threat, the US resolve will continue, Ambassador Goldberg has said. At the same time, the US ambassador sharply criticised North Korea for threatening South Korea with its tactical nuclear weapon attacks. Ambassador Goldberg said North Korea’s threats were irresponsible and extremely dangerous.

Moreover, whether the threat of nuclear weapons comes from Russian President Vladimir Putin or North Korean Dictator Kim Jong-un is equally prohibitive. Goldberg has warned that this only makes the situation fester.
