Ukrainian group responsible for Nord Stream pipeline explosions

New York/ Moscow: A US newspaper claimed that a Ukrainian group was behind the Nord Stream oil pipeline explosions in September last year. The daily said in its report that this claim is being made by quoting American intelligence sources. While a claim of an American newspaper is coming to light, some newspapers in Germany have also said that the German authorities have found the boat used in the accident in the Nord Stream. However, Russia has rejected these claims and said that it is part of a disinformation campaign by the West, said spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Last month, Pulitzer Prize-winning American journalist Seymour Hersh published an article on his website. The article was titled ‘How America Took Out the Nord Stream Pipeline’. In this, he blasted that US agencies blew up the ‘Nord Stream Pipeline‘ with the help of Norway and other NATO countries. The Biden administration dismissed his claims, calling Hersh’s article ‘fiction’. Based on Hersh’s article, Russia demanded a discussion in the Security Council. Therefore, while the issue of Nord Stream has come up again, the American newspaper ‘The New York Times’ has made new claims. It said a group unrelated to the Ukrainian regime had attacked the Nord Stream oil pipeline. Germany and Poland were also used for this. But the American daily said that this matter was kept secret not to strain the relationship between Ukraine and Germany. The New York Times has also said that this information is being given by quoting sources in American intelligence agencies. But no one’s name has been mentioned in it.

Moreover, Russia has strongly criticized the article in the American daily. Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov blamed the American daily for publishing the article to divert attention from the original incident and the masterminds. He also alleged that this is part of a propaganda campaign by the West and that it is a rumour. Peskov also said that Russia was not involved in the investigation of the Nord Stream disaster and that it was all part of a criminal conspiracy.

In the last week of September 2022, a mysterious fuel leak was revealed from the ‘Nord Stream’ fuel pipeline built in Russia and European countries. NATO and the European Union blamed Russia for this leak. Russia accused the US of being behind this. Russia also demanded that if Europe decided to investigate the matter in depth, it should also include America as a suspect.

Nord Stream is the main gas pipeline from Russia to Europe. But last year, the supply through this pipeline was stopped due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Russia had taken an aggressive stance that it would start supplies only if the European countries lifted the sanctions. Although the ‘Nord Stream 2’ fuel pipeline was built and ready, the supply had not started due to the refusal of permission by the new German government. Even when the fuel supply was stopped, the incident of fuel gas leakage at the end of September created a mystery around it.
