Ukraine is Europe's problem, not of the United States

Washington – Former US National Security Advisor (NSA) Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg said that the current tension in Ukraine is Europe’s problem and President Biden should not get the United States entangled in the matter. Kellogg raised the question, ‘Why President Biden is wasting energy and resources on Ukraine instead of focusing on China’s real threat posed by China?’ Former US President Donald Trump also referred to the Ukraine situation as Europe’s problem and claimed that Europe should take the initiative to resolve the issue.

Since the last few days, it has been observed that Russia has been increasing its military deployments on the Ukraine border. Ukrainian and US analysts are claiming that President Putin will launch an attack on Ukraine in February. US President Joe Biden has warned that sanctions may be imposed against Russian President Putin if Russia attacked Ukraine. At the same time, he has indicated the deployment of additional 50,000 soldiers in Europe for the security of Ukraine. There are strong reactions to Biden’s policy on Ukraine from within the United States. Statements from former NSA Kellogg and former President Trump reaffirm the reactions.

Moreover, former US NSA warned that President Biden and his advisors have failed on the Afghanistan issue and now there are signs that the same thing is being repeated in Ukraine. There is no option to ensure a concrete solution for the Ukraine problem. A direct US intervention is undoubtedly not an option. Ukraine is primarily Europe’s problem, and they should find the solution. But the European countries have failed to resolve the problem.

Kellogg also pointed out that Europe is still dependent on 35% of its total oil imports from Russia. He highlighted that Germany did not allow its airspace to the United Kingdom, which is supplying weapons to Ukraine, which shows that the European countries are not united on the issue. He also pointed out that there has been no resolution on the Donbas issue in Ukraine for the last eight years. Former NSA Kellogg also claimed that Ukraine is a crucial issue closely associated with Russian security and President Putin has decided to resolve it using military power.

Kellogg also indicated that the US involvement in Ukraine would distance the United States from the increasing Chinese threat. It could be one of the motives behind President Putin’s decision to attack Ukraine. Former US President Donald Trump also referred to the Ukraine issue as a Europe’s problem and claimed that Germany would not enter the conflict as it is under Russian influence.
