President Trump to cut down the number of immigrants in US, only 18,000 immigrants to be accepted in 2020

Third World WarWashington: US President Trump has indicated a stern stand against immigrants, coming to the United States. Trump has signed an order in this respect and as per the order, the United States will accept only 18,000 immigrants, in the year 2020. Nearly 30,000 immigrants entered the United States in 2018-19 and as compared to that, the number has been reduced by a massive 40%.

Trump has consistently adopted an aggressive stand against the immigrants, from the days of his campaign on the international level as well. Saying that the immigrants are responsible for the terror attacks in Europe as well as the United States, he has been persistent on his stand that the immigrants need to be stopped to curtail terrorism. In the two years after Trump assumed power, he has always prioritised the decisions to prevent the immigrants from entering the United States.

Trump had ordered to accept only 45,000 and 30,000 immigrants for the years 2017-18 and 2018-19, respectively. Barack Obama, the US President before Trump, had taken this figure to nearly 110,000, during his tenure. But Trump adopted a firm stand that the immigrants don’t have free access, reducing the numbers consistently. He even imposed an entry ban on immigrants coming from certain countries.

Trump had clearly refused to retreat on the immigrant issue, despite consistent legal challenges posed by the opposition parties and voluntary organisations. Trump initiated an aggressive action against the immigrants trying to sneak in through the southern border, with Mexico. The work on the ambitious Border Wall, envisaged by Trump, to stop the immigrant influx, also has started. Against this background, the decision to reduce the number of immigrants for the next year seems to be a reiteration of the previous stand.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, while supporting the decision of President Trump, underlined that instead of bothering about the reduction in the number of immigrants, attention needs to be paid to the US efforts in the other parts of the world. Pompeo said that the United States is cooperating on political and other levels, comprehensively, to find solutions to the causes for immigration, and this is more important.
