Tracking weapons supplied by US to Ukraine difficult – DOD Inspector General claims

Washington/ Kyiv: Inspector General of the Department of Defense Robert P. Storch has claimed that keeping track of the US arms supply to Ukraine is difficult. In Tuesday’s US congressional committee hearing, Storch indirectly admitted that tracking exactly who gets the weapons given to Ukraine is impossible. The US is said to have supplied Ukraine with over 31 billion dollars worth of arms in the past year. It includes rockets, guns, tanks, missiles, drones, helicopters, radar and other advanced systems.

Since 2014, the US has provided a lot of defense assistance to Ukraine. After Russia launched an attack in February last year, the US dramatically increased its arms support to Ukraine. The US has supplied Ukraine with weapons worth more than $31 billion in just one year. A bill has also been passed in the US Parliament to provide $50-60 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine.

Moreover, President Joe Biden has also promised that the US will supply arms to Ukraine until Russia is defeated. However, US officials, analysts and members of parliament are constantly complaining that these weapons received by Ukraine are not properly accounted for. It is said that the United States has also deployed a unit of the American Army in Ukraine to ensure the supply of weapons. However, it is revealed by the statement of Inspector General Robert Storch that the US Army has failed to keep track of weapons in Ukraine.

According to the claims made by Russia, weapons coming from the US are being sent in large quantities to Middle East countries, Africa and Southeast Asian countries. A report published last year revealed that only 30 per cent of the US weapons supply reaches the Ukrainian military.
