1,700 tourists rescued by the military

Gangtok: The Indian army has rescued 1,700 tourists trapped because of the heavy snowfall in Sikkim. These include women, children and aged people. The tourists were stuck in the Nathula Pass region of Sikkim. The military has rescued all these people and housed them in the military camp.

But they got stuck on the Jawaharlal road because of the snowstorm and the snowfall. The Indian military swung into action after receiving this information and rescued all of them. A military official informed that the work continued till late in the night on Friday.

Since the last few days, Sikkim is experiencing heavy snowfall and the day-to-day life is being disturbed. Efforts to remove the snow from the roads with JCBs and Bulldozers is yet being continued and the road is expected to be cleared at the earliest. The military officials informed that the work would not stop until the way was cleared.

The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall and snowfall in the Sikkim region in the next week. The Indian military has made the staying arrangements for the rescued tourists in the military camp.
