US to retain Iranian Revolutionary Guards in terror list, claims Israeli Prime Minister

Jerusalem/Washington: The United States had included the Revolutionary Guards, a main unit in the Iranian military, in the terror list. But Iran had laid down a condition that if the United States intends to sign the nuclear deal with Iran, it will have to remove the Revolutionary Guards from the terror list. Biden administration in the United States had agreed to accept the condition, and Secretary of State Blinken had even given indications. But Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett asserted that President Biden would not do that and retain the Revolutionary Guards on the terror list.

US to retain Iranian Revolutionary Guards in terror list, claims Israeli Prime MinisterUS President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett held telephonic discussions on the 24th of April. Both the countries had refrained from disclosing the details of the talks. But two days ago, the Israeli Prime Minister posted the references to the meeting on social media. Prime Minister Bennett posted that he welcomes the decision of the Biden administration to retain the Iranian Revolutionary Guards on the list of ‘Foreign Terrorist Organisations’.

Therefore, it is clear that the US and Israeli leaders discussed the issue of Revolutionary Guards during the discussions. US media published a report regarding this. The US media also claimed that the decision had been taken to retain the Iranian Revolutionary Guards on the terror list. At the same time, the concession window has been closed on Iran. As per these media, the path towards revitalising the nuclear deal has been completed with this decision of the Biden administration.

Surprise is being expressed over the change in the approach of the Biden administration, who had indicated to accept the Iranian demands only ten days ago. Biden administration has not given any reaction to the Israeli prime minister’s statements and the media reports. But only a few hours ago, the US treasury department imposed sanctions against the fuel smuggling racket linked to the Revolutionary Guards. The Quds Forces and terrorist organisation Hezbollah linked to the Revolutionary Guards have been targeted with these sanctions.

Meanwhile, After the Biden administration started nuclear deal negotiations with Iran 10 months ago, Israel and Saudi Arabia were displeased. Israel had openly expressed its displeasure and had lambasted that Israel would not be abiding by the nuclear deal with Iran. After that, Congressmen from the ruling Democrat and the opposition Republican party had opposed the nuclear deal. The Biden administration seems to be feeling the pressure. Israel has apparently exerted pressure on the Biden administration on the Revolutionary Guards issue, taking advantage of the situation.
