Russian hacker group Killnet cyberattacks website of Ukraine & ‘Anonymous’ hacker group

Moscow/Kyiv: – The cyber sector felt repercussions of the Russian attack on Ukraine, which occurred last week. A few days ago, the biggest hacker group Anonymous declared a cyberwar against Russia. Following the announcement, cyberattacks were launched on Russian channels, electric vehicles, and Russian space systems. The Russian hackers have retaliated against these attacks and have launched cyberattacks on important Ukrainian and the Anonymous website.

Moreover, the Russian hacker group named Killnet launched an attack on the main Website of Anonymous. The website displayed a message ‘ERR 500’ since the attack and it was non-operational till Wednesday night. The Killnet hacker group claimed that a cyberattack was launched on the websites of the Right Sector, the rightist group in Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky.   

In the last two months, this is the third cyberattack launched on Ukraine against the background of the Russia-Ukraine tension. Before this, large scale cyberattacks were launched in January on the Ukrainian government websites and the Ukrainian bank websites. But Russian hand could not be confirmed behind the cyberattacks. A few days ago, websites of European groups and officials assisting Ukraine were also attacked.   

Ukraine has appealed to its citizens and hackers on the international level to join the anti-Russia cyberattacks campaign. Ukraine claimed that there was a massive response to the appeal and the participation of Anonymous is a part of the same response. Earlier, Russia had launched cyberattacks in Ukraine in 2015, 2016, 2017, disrupting the energy systems, banking and government networks.
