Russia accuses Ukraine of terrorist attack on Crimea bridge with US, UK’s help

Moscow/Kyiv – The Russian Foreign Ministry has alleged that Ukraine, with US and UK agencies’ assistance, carried out a terrorist attack on the Crimea Bridge. On Monday morning, the drone attack on the bridge connecting Russia and Crimea killed two people, seriously injuring one person. It is Ukraine’s second major attack on the Crimea Bridge in the last ten months. Russia has sharply reacted to this attack, and President Vladimir Putin has called a meeting of the Security Council.

On Monday morning, the Crimea Bridge was targeted at around 3 am. Two Unmanned Surface Drones (USVs) of Ukraine collided with Pillar 145 of the bridge and caused a big explosion. Due to its impact, two people travelling in the vehicle passing through the bridge got killed, and one was injured. The bridge suffered heavy damage, causing a huge crack in the road due to this explosion. In addition, photographs of the deterioration of the bridge road have also surfaced.

Besides, the blast also affected the traffic on the bridge and instructed all vehicles to turn back. Additionally, those passing through the bridge have been asked to use railways and boats. Rail traffic is normal, yet the trains on this route are running late, the sources said. Moreover, other security agencies and the Russian army have entered the Crimea Bridge. The agencies clarified that a case of ‘terrorist attack’ had been registered after the attack.

Ukraine, which has been refusing responsibility for the attacks in Crimea and the Russian border, has acknowledged this attack for the first time. Besides, it is said that the Ukrainian intelligence agencies targeted this bridge with the help of the Navy. Russia has registered a sharp reaction to Ukraine’s attack. Furthermore, Russia’s Foreign Ministry has alleged that Ukraine carried out attacks with the help of US and UK intelligence. President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed this and said he is fully aware of ongoing exchanges between the Ukrainian government, the US, European countries and NATO.

Former President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has said that terrorists understand only the language of power. By making this statement, he also demanded direct targeting of the officers and close ones involved in this attack. At the same time, Russian Senator Vladimir Dzhabarov warned by making a statement that Russia may cut off the connection between Ukraine and the Black Sea after occupying Odesa and Mykolaiv. Besides, Senator Andrey Klishas has warned that Ukraine must quickly carry out denazification and demilitarisation after the new terrorist attack.

Furthermore, this is the second incident of Ukraine attacking the Crimea Bridge this year. In October last year, Ukraine initiated a suicide blast with the help of a fuel tanker on the bridge. President Putin then began missile and drone attacks on Ukraine in response. The Ukrainian government admitted a few days ago that they had launched an attack in October.
