Riyadh/Moscow/Washington: Russian President Vladimir Putin held telephonic discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. The Russian government announced an exchange of views over the cooperation issues in OPEK Plus, the association of oil-producing countries, and the security and stability in the Middle East region. Meanwhile, international media are pointing out that these discussions were held between the Saudi Crown Prince and the Russian President even before the completion of one week for the Saudi visit of US President Joe Biden.

Last week, US President Joe Biden visited Saudi Arabia. The US President went to Saudi to demand that Saudi and its Arab allies, the oil-producing countries, should increase their oil output. Biden was going to attempt to salvage the strained relations of the United States with Saudi and its allies. But the ‘The Wall Street Journal’, a daily from the United States itself, claimed that US-Saudi relations had hit a historic low with this visit of the US President to Saudi.

Moreover, US media criticised President Biden’s failure to reassure Saudi and its Arab allies on the issue of negotiations for the nuclear deal between the United States and Iran. As per the daily, Saudi, once a close ally of the United States, did not attach any importance to the demand made by the US President to increase oil output. Moreover, the Saudi Crown Prince held talks with the Russian President just a week before the US President’s visit.

Bilateral friendly relations, the global fuel market and economic cooperation were the issues discussed in the Telephonic conversation between the Russian and Saudi leaders. The Russian President also shared information regarding the Syrian conflict and the Astana conference with the Saudi Crown Prince. Four days ago, the Astana conference was held in the Iranian capital Tehran. The host, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, participated in the meeting. Therefore, western media are pointing out that this meeting was also a discussion topic between the Russian President and the Saudi Crown Prince.

Meanwhile, President Biden announced that the United States would not withdraw from the Middle East during his visit to Saudi last week. Biden said Russia would not be allowed to the United States in the Middle East. But this discussion between the Russian President and Saudi Crown Prince will certainly give a few sleepless nights to the Biden administration. US analysts are warning that the discussions between the Saudi Crown Prince and the Russian President express disbelief in the Biden administration.
