Washington/Taipei: Chinese Ministry of Defence has warned that China will not remain quiet if Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, visits Taiwan. Reports had been received that China might attack foreign aircraft in retaliation by imposing a ‘no-fly zone’ on Taiwan. President Joe Biden has not commented on the entire matter. But Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan is gaining increasing support of US senators from both parties.

But after this, China had an extreme reaction following this report. Chinese Ministry of Defence publicly announced a military response to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.

Chinese Defence Ministry spokesman Tan Kefei warned that if the Speaker of the US House of Representatives visits Taiwan and meets the democratic leaders, the Chinese army will not be a mute spectator. But the ruling Democrats in the US Senate, as well as the senators from the opposition Republican Party, have demanded that Pelosi visit Taiwan. Senators also say they will support Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. Newt Gingrich visited Taiwan as Speaker in 1997. In that case, if Pelosi’s visit is confirmed, it will be the first time in 25 years that a US speaker is visiting Taiwan.

Meanwhile, two days ago, the Vice President of the Parliament of the European Union, Nicola Birr, recently visited Taiwan and met President Tsai Ing-wen.
