Another US delegation, of American lawmakers, on Taiwan visit after Nanc

Taipei: Even twelve days after Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, China is spewing fire. In this situation, five more US representatives have entered Taiwan. After this, China started war exercises near Taiwan’s Penghu Islands and issued a fresh warning to the United States and Taiwan. This is unlikely to have much effect on the determination of the United States and Taiwan. There are indications that leaders and officials of European countries are also preparing to visit Taiwan in the coming times.

A delegation of US Senators Ed Markey, John Garamendi, Alan Lowenthal, Don Baer and Aumua Radewagen arrived at Taipei Airport on Monday. The US delegation is on a two-day visit to Taiwan and was welcomed by Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu. The US Cultural Centre in Taipei informed that the US delegation would meet the President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen, to discuss bilateral cooperation, regional security, and trade. The US cultural centre in Taiwan is claimed to function like an embassy.

Like Pelosi, the United States did not make a fuss about this visit to Taiwan by people’s representatives. Due to the strong reaction from China after Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, it is claimed that the Biden administration has kept the said visit of the people’s representatives very subdued. But China has reacted quickly to this visit of US representatives to Taiwan. On Monday, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army began military exercises near the Penghu archipelago in the Gulf of Taiwan. China’s Eastern Command has announced that it started these military exercises as a preparation to respond to any attempt to challenge Chinese sovereignty.

The Chinese Defence Ministry issued a warning in a separate statement, ‘The Chinese military is preparing for the security of territorial integrity and sovereignty and is also ready for war. The Chinese military will crush separatist groups demanding Taiwan independence and foreign interference.’ Although a direct mention is avoided, China is also claimed to have threatened the democratic government of Ing-wen in Taiwan along with the United States and Japan.

Although China continues to threaten Taiwan and Western countries, this will not affect the determination of the United States, European countries and Taiwan. Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu invited a delegation of European countries to visit Taiwan even after China started live-fire exercises at six locations around Taiwan.

There are reports that a representative of Germany will visit Taiwan soon. It was also reported that China threatened Germany.

Meanwhile, China has increased military activity near the Gulf of Taiwan. Chinese social media claim that Chinese fighter jets and destroyers are preparing to attack Taiwan. Claims are being made on social media that the Chinese army can invade Taiwan anytime, and the United States will be fully responsible for this.
