Massive cache of Chinese made arms seized near India-Bhutan border

Kokrajhar: A massive haul of weapons and ammunition got seized in police action, in the Kokrajhar district in Assam, near the Bhutan border. This became a cause for concern for the security forces as the haul had Chinese made weapons. A few days ago, a similar haul of weapons and ammunition was seized by the security forces, from the ‘Bodoland Territorial Area District’ (BTAD) area. The new action confirms that the terrorist organisations from the northeast, are being supported by China.

The police received a tipoff that arms and ammunition were stocked in the Katlibil and Belguri jungle areas, near the India-Bhutan border, in Assam. After that, police began a search operation, by afternoon. A machinegun, five AK-56 rifles, 244 cartridges, Insas Rifle, five magazines with three 9 mm pistols, 0.22 Chinese Guns along with two magazines and hand grenades were seized. The police claimed that a major attack plot was busted with this action.

Since the last month, terrorist organisations have become active in the BTAD area. Therefore, the security had been strengthened in this area. Large quantities of arms and ammunition have been seized from the four districts under BTAD. But the seizure, on Sunday, from the Katlibil and Belguri jungle, is considered to be the biggest action. Bodoland Territorial Council elections were scheduled to be held in April. But the elections were postponed given the Coronavirus pandemic, till further orders. The terrorist organisations have become active to ensure that the elections are not held.

Meanwhile, it has been exposed in the previous actions that most of the terrorist organisations, active in the northeastern states, are receiving support from China. The concerns of the security forces seem to have increased, as these weapons have reached as far as the Bhutan border. India has consistently foiled the Chinese attempts to intrude into and pressurise Bhutan. Therefore, the actions of the Assam police expose, that now, China is making an effort to create disturbances on the Bhutan border, through these Chinese weapons.
