The survey was conducted every four years by the Japanese ministry through e-mail. About 3,000 people over 18 were surveyed two months ago about threats to Japan’s security. Among them, 86.2% predicted the possibility of an attack on Japan or their country getting dragged into a war. According to the survey, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, China’s military aggression, and North Korea’s missile tests have increased the likelihood of an attack on Japan.

Moreover, about 85.5% said in a survey conducted in 2018 that the risk of war has increased. But the Japanese citizens have been saying that the danger has increased this time due to international events. Nearly 85.7% said that rising global tensions were the reason for this. Besides, 38.2% of people reported that the danger of the war against Japan got aggravated due to the defects of the United Nations system and lack of decision-making ability. In this survey, about 28.2% of citizens claimed Japan’s insufficiency in defence.

Furthermore, about 89.7% claim that the security agreement with the US will be helpful for Japan, while 9.1% assert that the deal will not benefit Japan. North Korea’s missile tests, China’s aggressive military moves in the East and South China Seas, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have been considered the challenges facing Japan. In the wake of these threats, 53% of Japanese people feel their country was poorly equipped with arms. Also, the survey revealed that the confidence of the Japanese people in their country’s defence preparedness decreased compared to four years ago.
