Netanyahu government in Israel will support Russia on the Ukraine issue – Israeli and Ukrainian analysts claim

Jerusalem: – Reactions on the stand taken by Ukraine on the Palestine issue at the United Nations meeting have started to emerge. Ukraine voted in favour of a resolution claiming Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory. A repercussion of this will soon be seen, as Benjamin Netanyahu, once coming to power in Israel, will make Ukraine pay the price for this. Ukrainian analysts claim that Netanyahu’s government will support Russia and cut off military supplies to Ukraine. Analysts in Israel have a similar view.

Among the few proposals tabled at the United Nations meeting last week, a resolution about Israel annexing Palestine territory was proposed. A vote of 98-17 passed the motion. About 52 countries abstained from voting on this proposal. Zelensky’s government has come under fire from Israel and Ukraine for voting against Israel.

For the past few months, Naftali Bennett, and Yair Lapid, who were in power in Israel, had refused to supply the arms that Ukraine requested. However, photographs of Ukrainian soldiers using Israeli-made military vehicles surfaced during their tenure. At the same time, former Prime Ministers Bennett and Lapid had taken a stand against Russia at the United Nations.

Subsequently, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov strongly criticized Israel. Also, Russia pointed out that Israel was supporting Ukraine, favouring the Nazis. This strained the relations between Russia and Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu had also hinted at providing military assistance to Ukraine during his election campaign.

Meanwhile, officials and analysts from Israel and Ukraine have warned about Ukraine’s blunder in voting against Israel at the UN meeting. Yoni Ben-Menachem, an analyst at the Jerusalem Centre for Public Affairs, claimed that the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, who will soon come to power, will take steps favouring Russia.

Ben-Menachem clarified that this one decision of Ukraine is enough for Netanyahu’s fury and to ensure the stoppage of any weapons supplies to Ukraine. On the contrary, Ben-Menachem pointed out that Netanyahu will increase cooperation with President Putin to get assistance from Russia for launching attacks on Iranian sites in Syria.

Zelensky’s assistant Oleksiy Arestovych criticized the position taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine against Israel, calling it totally unacceptable as the support of Israel was needed against the alliance of Russia and Iran. Arestovych lashed out at the foreign policy of his own country, saying that Ukraine was expected to abstain from such an anti-Israel vote at the United Nations.
