Israel has stepped up efforts to increase military cooperation with Saudi

Washington: According to the US news agency Bloomberg, the Israeli Prime Minister is stepping up efforts to increase military cooperation with Saudi Arabia. Against the backdrop of the threat from Iran, cooperation is expected to increase between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Bloomberg cites sources to claim a meeting is planned in Prague between Saudi and Israeli officials in the next few days.

After coming to power in Israel a month ago, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately announced to include Saudi Arabia in the Abraham Accords while speaking in an interview with the media in Israel. However, there was no apparent progress over this. According to Bloomberg, the Biden administration is willing to mediate a discussion between Israel and Saudi.

Moreover, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan visited Israel in January and met Prime Minister Netanyahu. The inclusion of Saudi Arabia in the Abraham Accords was discussed in this meeting. The Prime Minister of Israel expressed his belief that if Saudi participated in this agreement, the region would be more peaceful also that cooperation with Saudi Arabia would be vital to stop Iran’s nuclear program and terrorist organisations.

A few days ago, senior officials of the US State Department visited Saudi Arabia and met with the member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. It is claimed that cooperation with Israel was proposed in the meeting with Saudi. It is claimed that Saudi Arabia cannot establish political cooperation with Israel unless the issue of Palestine is resolved. Nevertheless, Israel has shown readiness to establish an anti-Iran coalition with Saudi Arabia regarding military and intelligence sharing.

At a security meeting going on in Munich, Germany, the Saudi leaders are discussing with the Palestinian Prime Minister. In such a situation, analysts are keen on the outcome of the talks between Israel and Saudi representatives in Prague.

Earlier, there were reports of secret meetings between Israeli and Saudi officials in the US and European countries. In 2020, it was claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu secretly travelled to the Saudi city of Neom and met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It was discussed that the UAE and Bahrain signed the Abraham Treaty with Israel only after the consensus with Saudi Arabia. The ongoing discussion on military cooperation between Israel and Saudi Arabia against Iran is attracting attention in such a situation.
