Iran and Tajikistan unite against terrorism in AfghanistanIran and Tajikistan are neighbours of Afghanistan. After the Taliban established its rule in Afghanistan, both these countries had expressed concerns that their borders were under threat. In this scenario, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon visited Iran and met President Ebrahim Raisi.

Following the discussions held between the leaders, agreements for cooperation in economic, trade, science and technology, tourism and cultural sectors were signed. The Iranian President had indicated that independent cooperation could be established between the two countries on the security front. The information regarding this is being revealed now.

There has been no change in the terrorist activities in Afghanistan even after the takeover by the Taliban. Iran and Tajikistan have realised that the activities of IS and other terrorist organisations pose a serious threat to their countries. Against this background, both these countries have initiated steps to increase cooperation against terrorism in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Iran had accused that establishing Taliban rule in Afghanistan was a conspiracy against it. Whereas, Tajikistan has said that it does not recognise the Taliban rule. It is claimed that Tajikistan is assisting the anti-Taliban Afghan rebel group Northern Resistance Front. Even two decades ago, India and Russia had opened a front with Iran and Tajikistan against the Taliban rule.
