Iran seizes an oil cargo vessel from the Gulf of Oman – 24 Indians on board  

Dubai: Iran has captured an oil cargo vessel bearing a Red Marshall’s flag from the Gulf of Oman because the captured vessel collided with a patrolling ship of Iran as per the Iranian Navy. There were about 24 Indians on board which was on its way to Houston. The US Navy is accusing Iran of acting in the international maritime boundary.

oil cargo vesselAdvantage Sweet, named cargo vessel, was carrying oil for Chevron through the Gulf of Oman on Thursday, destined to reach Houston in the US. However, the Iranian Navy stopped and seized it on suspicion of hitting one of their patrol vessels, which caused some of its crew members to be missing and injured.  

The Iranian Navy has not yet confirmed the certainty of which vessel collided with their patrolling ship. However, based on the ship monitoring tracker, the Iranian Navy suspects that the vessel with the Red Marshall flag was the one which collided, and the Iranian Navy fired shots at the vessel. The US and the European countries have criticized Iran for this action.  

Meanwhile, the West has accused Iran of illegally acting against five merchant ships travelling through the maritime zone in the last two years. US senators have demanded sanctions against Iran and its officials.
