India tests nuclear-capable Agni-4 missile

New Delhi: The Defence Ministry announced that India has successfully test-fired Agni-4, a medium-range nuclear-capable missile. The test was conducted on Monday night on Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha, the defence ministry said in a statement. It was also said that this was a part of routine training tests.

India tests nuclear-capable Agni-4 missileThe defence department’s ‘Strategic Forces Command’ tested the Agni-4 ballistic missile around 7.30 PM on Monday night. The defence department informed that the missile successfully satisfied all the test criteria. The statement said the test symbolised India’s ‘credible minimum deterrence capability’ policy. The range of Agni-4 is about four thousand kilometres.

In the last few years, India has developed and successfully tested various versions of Agni missiles. Most of these missiles have already been inducted and deployed in the Indian defence forces. Moreover, the process of incorporating India’s intercontinental ballistic missile, known as Agni-5, into the defence forces is in its final stages. Last year, India successfully tested Agni Prime, a ballistic missile with a range between one and two thousand kilometres.
