India slams UNSC that failed to cease the Ukraine conflict

United Nations: As the Ukraine conflict completed one year, the United Nations passed an anti-Russian resolution. The resolution demanded that Russia withdraw its troops from Ukraine and stop the bloodshed. Although a majority passed this resolution, 29 countries, including India, abstained from voting in favour of the said resolution and against Russia. At the same time, India has blamed the United Nations for its complete failure to stop the conflict in Ukraine. India pointed out that the United Nations Security Council, established in 1945, has become ineffective nowadays and the failure of the Security Council to stop the conflict in Ukraine has highlighted this issue anew.

India slams UNSC that failed to cease the Ukraine conflictAt the United Nations, 141 countries voted in favour of the anti-Russian resolution proposed by Ukraine with the help of the United States. Seven countries voted against the resolution. 29 countries, including India and China, adopted a neutral stance and refrained from voting against Russia. It is said that the United Kingdom, France and Germany have tried to make India stand in favour of the said resolution. But it is reported that India rejected it. Simultaneously, India raised the question, ‘Did the United Nations Security Council try to prevent this conflict by agreeing with Russia and Ukraine?’. India’s ambassador to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, clarified that it is impossible to stop this conflict without involving Ukraine and Russia in negotiations.

Moreover, the dire consequences of the conflict in Ukraine are unfolding. India’s ambassador pointed out that children and women have suffered immensely from this conflict. But negotiation is the only viable option if the conflict is to be avoided. India had made it aware from time to time. Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj also testified that the Prime Minister of India had stated that this could not be a time of conflict. But to stop this conflict, the Security Council has not made enough efforts to reach an agreement between the two countries, the ambassador of India harshly criticised.

Furthermore, this failure of the United Nations Security Council proves that the Security Council has become ineffective in the changing times. India slams UNSC that failed to cease the Ukraine conflictThe ambassador of India blamed the United Nations Security Council, which was established in 1945, has not been able to establish peace and security in the world by facing the challenges of the present time.

The Security Council was unsuccessful in resolving the Ukraine conflict and other issues. India had warned earlier that the United Nations is in danger of losing its influence. Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj has raised this matter again in the United Nations and it is becoming difficult for the United Nations to ignore India’s continuous demands. After the establishment of the United Nations, there have been great changes in the world. These changes have not been reflected in the Security Council of the United Nations, which is considered the most effective.

However, five countries are permanent members of this Security Council: United States, Russia, United Kingdom, France and China. Therefore, India’s position is that there is a need to expand the permanent members of the Security Council and India must have a place in this. Indian leaders and diplomats assert that India, which has the largest population and the fifth-largest economy globally, has a natural right to this permanent membership. It is getting a great response from other countries too. In this background, India has constantly realised that the United Nations has been ineffective in solving the Ukraine conflict and other problems. Other countries are also supporting this claim of India.
