India’s stand has had an impact on Russia: US CIA chief William Burns

William BurnsWashington: The Indian Prime Minister’s phone conversation with Russian President Putin is still reverberating in the US. The US State Department had reacted cautiously to this. US intelligence agency CIA chief William Burns claimed that the concerns expressed by Prime Minister Modi over the use of nuclear weapons had an impact on Russia. Burns has welcomed this stand taken by the Prime Minister of India. This makes it clear once again that India is playing a very important role in ensuring that Ukraine’s war does not flare up.

For the past few days, Russian President Vladimir Putin has been warning that the war in Ukraine could escalate into a nuclear war. President Putin had threatened that if the US and NATO continued to provide sophisticated weapons to Ukraine, Russia would not hesitate to use nuclear weapons for self-defense. The United States has also adopted a policy of first use of nuclear weapons (primitive strike) for its defense. Pointing to this, President Putin recently claimed that Russia has the right to do the same.

As the war in Ukraine escalates, President Putin has shocked all the countries with this threat. Meanwhile, Ukraine and NATO are alleging that Russia is prolonging the war in Ukraine more and more and that Russia does not intend to stop the war. In such a situation, India, as a country with the ability to influence the West and Russia, along with Ukraine, seems to be trying to prevent the conflict from escalating.

Not long ago, France claimed that it was working with India to prevent the war in Ukraine from becoming more destructive. However, the seriousness of the situation has increased manifold after it was revealed that the President of Russia had hinted at a nuclear war and made moves towards the same. In such a situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a phone discussion with the Russian President. In this discussion, he insisted that diplomatic negotiations are the only way to solve the Ukraine problem. However, more information about this was not revealed to the media.

Against that background, CIA chief William Burns cited threats of nuclear attack from Russia. “We still have no evidence that Russia is preparing to launch a nuclear attack,” he said. At the same time, the US has brought to Russia’s attention the terrible consequences of nuclear attack. At such a time, the Prime Minister of India raised this issue by expressing concern over the use of nuclear weapons. It seems to have influenced Russia, added William Burns.

In his interview, William Burns also mentioned that Prime Minister Modi’s message to Russia was included in the ‘G20’ summit held in Bali.
