India reacts sharply to China's foreign minister's ‘Wolf Warrior’ claim -

New Delhi: China’s new Foreign Minister Qin Gang has said that the status quo remains on the borders of India and China and both countries want to maintain peace here. In an article in the US magazine, China’s new foreign minister has ignored the tensions on the LAC by making this claim. But India made the Chinese foreign minister aware of the situation. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that India’s stand is already that maintaining harmony and peace along the border is essential for cooperation between the two countries to develop.

An article titled ‘How China sees the world’ was written by Qin Gang for an American magazine. It is said that he wrote this article before becoming the Foreign Minister of China. Mentioning China’s border dispute with India, Gang claimed that both countries wanted to maintain the status quo and peace on the border. Former Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had also tried to play down China’s incursions and provocative activities on the LAC by making similar claims. Now it is revealed from this article that Qin Gang will also try to reduce the intensity of the dispute over LAC.

Although China is making such claims, India has taken a firm stand in this regard. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi warned that to develop cooperation between India and China, it is necessary to maintain peace and harmony on the border. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson has once again given a message to China that China is offering bilateral cooperation proposals to India without giving importance to it, which cannot be accepted. Along with this, Arindam Bagchi made a statement in the press conference indicating that he fully believes that the Indian defence forces have the power to protect the country’s borders.

Meanwhile, according to the reshuffle in China, Qin Gang has been appointed as Foreign Minister in place of Wang Yi. Qin Gang is known as China’s ‘Wolf Warrior‘. Qin Gang, a diplomat who takes the initiative to issue warnings and threats to other countries on behalf of China using the media and social media, is called the ‘Wolf Warrior’ for this reason. Over the past few years, China has started experimenting with ‘Wolf Warrior Diplomacy’. According to this, China’s diplomatic officials warn other countries of economic sanctions, threats of dire consequences and even outright war. China has often used this wolf warrior diplomacy, especially in the South China Sea dispute. Qin Gang was in the lead.

China has signalled its future policies by making a leader who is famous for such aggressive and rude language as the foreign minister. But Qin Gang seems to have made a cautious start regarding India. In his article in a US magazine, Qin Gang indicated that China wants better relations with India by stating that both countries desire to maintain the status quo on the LAC. But this raises the question of whether Qin Gang can maintain moderate diplomatic language for long. However, Qin Gang is expected to realize that threatening small and relatively weak countries in the South China Sea region and doing diplomatic business with India are two different things.
